The Bavarian National Museum in Munich is hosting the exhibition "Leonismo," featuring the colorful works of the 23-year-old painter Leon Löwentraut. The Munich showcase is part of Löwentraut's museum cycle, which began at the legendary "Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana" in Venice in May 2021 and was subsequently displayed at the Kunsforum in Vienna. In this unique exhibition tour featuring paintings, exclusive editions, and charcoal drawings, historical atmosphere and contemporary art come together. Through the presented works, Löwentraut engages with the Baroque style of artists like the Spanish court painter Diego Velázquez and translates it into his unmistakable expressive style, characterized by bright colors and vibrant forms. Additionally, for the first time, the exhibition features tondi (round paintings) by the artist on canvases specifically created for the exhibition - a format that the young artist views as a tribute to the old masters.
